HIWIN Technologies in Taiwan to Recruit 1,000 Workers

HIWIN Technologies Corp., Taiwan`s largest manufacturer of linear-motion technologies and devices, recently announced its hiring of 1,000 workers to meet production expansion this year, with such plans being rare in the domestic precision machinery industry over the past several years.

The economic recovery has pushed HIWIN`s equipment utilization close to 100%. hence the capacity expansion. Other leading machine-tool manufacturers, including Goodway Machine Corp., Awea Mechantronic Co., Tongtai Machine & Tool Co., Victor Taichung Machinery Works Co. and Yeong Ching Machinery Industries Co., are also planning to recruit new workers.

To meet rising orders, HIWIN will schedule overtime work during the lunar New-Year holidays in mid-February, and has ordered over 100 units of machinery for capacity expansion.

HIWIN said it has seen influx of orders over the past few months with production equipment for linear guides fully packed and the production equipment utilization rate for ball screws reaching over 95%. The company shipped NT$470 million (about US$14.77 million) of products in January 2010, up 1% year-on-year.

HIWIN registered NT$3.337 billion (US$104.93 million) in sales in 2009, down 36.54% year-on-year. Including that posted by subsidiaries, the HIWIN Group scored NT$6 billion (US$188.67 million) in combined sales in 2009, down 20% year-on-year from NT$7.5 billion (US$238.09 million).

The HIWIN Group will see production capacity rise by 10% after March this year when new production equipment is installed. The group will challenge NT$10 billion (US$314.46 million) in combined sales in 2010.
